Philip,
before you buy a starter, I make SURE it's not the battery.  Swap in a
battery from a modern car in your driveway, or use jumper cables.
The headlight test doesn't always tell you that your battery is good.
Connect the (-) of the jumper cables directly to the engine, not the
battery to take the ground wire out of the loop.
