1/2" is a lot better than none. I'd try that first. The price is right, the
mounting hardware is readily available and it will still work just fine.

3/4 is (IMHO) way too thick for normal road use. Great for the race
track, but your car will understeer chronically if you just bolt a 3/4"
bar on an otherwise standard Sprite.

A 5/8" bar seems to be a really good compromise for a road sprite
that needs to be comfortable and have reasonable clearance. Note that
this is what the factory used on the works rally cars.
