The winner was "Fisher Jones" of Comfort Texas. He had the first
reponse either to the list or my mail box. Since I forgot to
state in the rules that no prize subsitutions will be allowed fisher
wants to send me one of his dogs, not take mine. I guess I will look
for a box in the mail with plenty of air holes. Don't ship it UPS
I have seen them damage many things.

The valve cover is a Midget cover. The holes have been enlarged to
accept MGB bolts, washers and grommets. These things would not
be much of a problem but this is the first Midget I have owned. It
makes it difficult to identify parts if someone swapped out the original.

One other thing was I order a valve cover gasket from the local
auto parts store. The gave me the correct Fel-Pro cork gasket. When
I went to put it on the car the gasket was too wide to fit in the
channel on the valve cover. At that point I took the valve cover and
gasket to a parts place that sells lots of MG parts. As I walked
in I started to explain what my problem was and suggested that I may
have an MGB valve cover. One of the old guys behind the counter
grumbled "That's not from an MGB" and wandered into the back. In a
couple of mins. he came back with a bunch of gaskets that fit my
cover. I will have to give these guys more of my business since the
know what parts to sell you and what you have in your hand.

I also called Fel-Pro. They have had no other complaints. My gasket
is 5/16" wide but the channel on the valve cover is only 1/4" wide.
My gasket was manufactured or packed in the 34 week of 1997. He had
access to the tool plans and we compared the dimensions. They seemed
correct on his plans, but my gasket was wrong. So he logged the call.
I chose to keep the gasket and will just trim it down when I have to.

One other thing he said, if the sales of any part drops below 100 units
per year the discontinue that part.

I will admit that the wrong gasket confused me until I spoke to the
parts guy. I just wish I had a parts place like this closer to home.
They will continue to get my business because I think it is important
and helpful to support the local business's. Besides I need all the
help I can get.
