core growth, which way?

Thank you for telling me it's a good idea to go for
a custom made, larger core downflow radiator.

Now, if the core grows, which way will that be?
To the front of the rad (bonnet striker panel in the way), 
to the rear (the engine fan will be in the way unless you know
of an ultra-slim pulley) or downwards?
