Welcome to the list!

Before you start messing with the master  - you might check the
adjustment of the rear brakes, I had a similar problem with my 74 Midget
and the adjustment took care of it.  I also replaced everything with new
before the problem surfaced.  The 4 or 5 pumps may be what is required
to seat the rear shoes to the drums, thus adjusting them may cure the
problem.  There is no adjustment on the front, the calipers are self
adjusting.
