     Hi Dave ,
     On my car the washer is made of brass , only one , probably 0.010 -
0.015
     thick . I sealed the threads at the base with pipe thread compound . 
     BTW does any one have an extra  handle for the top of this valve that
they 
     would be willing to part with / sell ?
