So the Sprites get their Rush and their Spree, and what do the Midgets get?
We get to be "those other cars" in the MGB register. Well maybe it's time
to get some notice of our own.

It wasn't my idea, and I have to admit that I don't remember whose idea it
was, so if it was your idea, please step forward, and take the credit. At
any rate, someone suggested an event in 2001 to celebrate to 40th
anniversary of the 'modern' Midget. Since I am involved, in a small way, in
the planning of the International MG Convention that is happening in the
Twin Cities in July 2001. I was wondering if we should have a
Midget-specific event at the convention. (That's Minneapolis/St. Paul,
Minnesota, USA to all of you who realize that America isn't the center of
the universe.) Curt Carlson, fellow list member, is also involved in the
2001 event, even though his Midget lives in quiet disrepair in a Quonset
hut in North Dakota. ( I had to get that in.)

I'm trying to see if there is any interest in a 40th Anniversary
celebration for the Midget at this event. Also, I'm interested to know what
form the Midget owners might like this celebration to take. There will
already be judged shows, a rally, a gymkhana, tech sessions, etc. etc. at
the convention. We can get something on the official convention calendar
for Midgets if we want to, if we express to the powers that be that there
is enough interest in it. I have already brought the subject up and
everyone thinks it would be great.

We could:
Have a voted show "by Midget owners, for Midget owners"
Go for a long drive/rally
Drive to a nearby park on one of the convention days for a Midget-only
barbecue/ picnic. Maybe we could give some small awards for oldest Midget
in attendance, the Midget driven the furthest to attend, the Midget with
the highest known mileage, etc.
Any other ideas? We already know we're gonna kill 'em in the gymkhana.

This would be part of the MG 2001 convention, and you would register for
this as part of your MG 2001 registration.

So do we want to do this, and if so, what do we want to do?

Also I realize I'm probably setting myself up for a bunch of extra work by
asking this, so I would like some help, if we decide to go with this.

And if any Sprites want to come we'll make up some tinfoil 'chrome strips'
and grilles as disguises.
