Andy

If it is an A series engine, it should have a solid carbon disc and NOT
a roller bearing. You should have about 1/4" of carbon extending past
the cast steel carrier. If it is less then 1/8", replace it while you
can get to it.
There are 2 clips on the carrier, flip them around and the whole throw
out bearing falls off.
It should take about 30 seconds to remove and replace one.
