Peter,
There was no Mark I Sprite, just as there was no 100-4.

Both monikers came into use after subsequent models were produced.

I am trying to think of other similar car makes and models that resulted in
additional "Marks". The only one that immediately comes to mind is the original
Continental which I believe did not carry the designation Mark I, but the
Continental of the mid-50's was designated as a Mark II.
