now when was the last time you read a shop manual where there was a
specified air gap of a disengauged clutch plate? or the proper adjustment
of a throw out bearing to the pressure plate? remember the spridget gear
box has many more aplications than a spridget in it's parent market. now
exactly what car from what era the top oval hole is aplicable to? it is on
all gear boxes attached to an "a" series engine in spridgets. that
starts(spridgets) in 1958 and i figure the hole pre-dates that. i honestly
do not know. but i do know that saab has a similar hole on top ofthe
bellhousing and it is to visually adjust the throw out bearing fork stop
bolt as to get the air gap between the bearing and pressure plate to a bare
minium without contact at rest. saab also uses a louvered cover to
ventilate and cool the clutch assembly vs. mowog's rubber plug. an answer?
not really but possibly a direction? anyone else?
