Rob,
Having never ridden in a 1/2 elliptical car (only my 1/4 MK2) I wouldn't
know the differences in the ride. Why would you want to change the 1/2
elliptical spring setup?
Thanks,
-Drew in San Jose.

Looked underneath 2 cars today to find out if it is worth chasing up this
idea of converting the Mk2 to a 1/2 elliptic rear end. Rough measuring
showed that the foremost two bolts that hold the thick strengthener plates
to the underside of the Mk2 floor are EXACTLY the same location as the two
foremost bolts that come from inside the later cars to hold the front spring
hanger on. Now, this is good news as it might indicate that the floorpans
are indeed identical. I guess there are some minor differences with regards
to size of holes etc but I am wondering if anyone has access to early AND
late floorpans to see if they do have the bolt holes in the same position.
The two top links would give me a free anti-tramp system! I am reliably
informed that the 1/4 elliptic floor is easily capable of taking the
(reduced) loads of a 1/2 elliptic system. This would allow me to transfer a
complete axle assy onto the Mk2 so long as I welded in those two extra
brackets to the inside of the boot floor but I could really do with somebody
comparing the floorpans more accurately. Does anybody know of a dealer who
keeps both in stock?

Off to Spain for a beer run with the boys so back in 2 days.
