Great drive, still a few kinks...

Yesterday, I took the freebie ('75) Midget out for a good 2 hour cruise,
probably 80 miles or so. At the beginning of the trip the car all of a
sudden started running really badly to my dismay. Stopped and checked under
the hood to find that a plug wire had popped off the distributor somehow.
Hooked it back up and away I went. The car did excellently the rest of the
trip.

Friday found me dropping the fuel tank to replace the sending unit, and
replacing the headlight switch. So now all that's left to do in the guage
department is to fix the speedometer, which doesn't seem to want to hook to
the transmission.

There are still a couple of major issues I need to work out. White
smoke...is that from improper mixture? It really only happens when it is
first started, but I know the exhaust is always stinky. Secondly, any time
the car senses an uphill grade, or has a hard load under acceleration,
specifically when the RPMs are already high, the car starts sounding like a
big diesel truck. Is that valves or timing?

This is the first time I've had this car out on a real back-roading
adventure. What a blast...! :-) Now I remember why I used to like going
out just to drive.

Thanks,
Adrian
