OK, so I checked the wiring to my fan over the weekend. I'm beginning to get
used to the fact that just about everything on my Midget has been
fiddled-with at some time or other in the past. Some things have been done
well and others not so well.
In this case the wire from the fan passed to a bullet connector which was
wired directly to the fuse box. The chosen connection was the supply to the
sidelights (unfused side of course!).
All I want to know is why someone took the trouble to do this when it would
have been just as easy to connect it to to the correct parallel crimp point.
I can only guess that they didn't have a wiring diagram, forgot where the
connection came from and tried random experiments until they found a
connection that worked. Perhaps it was a bit dark so the side lights were
switched on at the time? Hey, you could get quite 'Sherlock Holmes' on this
kind of thing!
I cheered myself up by repainting the heater tap knob on the engine a nice
shade of bright red.
Next job is to fit a solid-state voltage stabliser in place of the iffy
electro-mechanical version which is place now. Then I can see how much
petrol I've got!
