Bill,

The first thing to check is that with the idle backed out all the way, that
your butterflies are actually completely closed. Loosen the linkage clamps
and completely close each side. Re-tighten the clamps and make sure that
they haven't moved. The bar that moves each butterfly should move in exact
unison on each side. This is important to getting the carbs in sync. When
you open the throttle gradually (small amount), each piston should rise
simultaneously and the same amount. If not, one butterfly is opening before
the other.
