This shouldn't be on this list.....
but, whilst I have no sympathy at all for these 2 boys I believe that
when 10 year olds are capable of this sort of atrocity it says
terrible things about the society that they (we) live in.

More particularly however, I think that the incitement of parts of the
British media and the resultant "baying for blood" that results, does
nothing at all to improve the situation for the future.
Why has no-one come forward to admit to, or to identify others, in the
murder of Damilola Taylor ? Its exactly because of the incited
public response to situations like this, and the failure of our
society to deal with the perpetrators of such incidents in a proper
fashion.
Punishment won't bring either victim back. Neither would it be a
threat or deterrent to other 10 year olds - if they don't have the
understanding or imagination to comprehend the consequences of their
behaviour then they clearly wouldn't have the imagination needed for a
deterent to be effective.

There is clearly an argument to protect society from a repeat
occurrence by imposing lfe sentences that mean life, but the money
could be better spent in other ways to reduce the social circumstances
that give rise to such incidents in the first place. What we don't
need is lynch mob mentality.

That's my lot. Off my soap box; back to spridgets!!
