I like to use the aluminum wheel cleaner--it is a phosphoric acid base spray 
that does a pretty good job of cleaning the aluminum.  Or go down to Home 
depot or one of the hardware concerns and get a bottle of aluminum 
cleaner--be sure it is phosphoric acid based.  

Just spray or brush it on, it foams, rinse it off.
