Jack is correct. I made it sound like drilling out the axle flange and brake
drum was a piece of cake, which it would be for me as I would have a pro do
it.. :-)

I agree that the original studs are 3/8" but installing them is a little
harder; you must carefully drill the axle flanges as well as the brake
drums and be carefull that both are aligned. If you have to install new
axles (a weak point on a Spridget), you must drill the new axle. However it
is much easier to find lug nuts for the 7/16" studs. As for the wheels, I
vintage race with many who use 5" Vega wheels without any clearance
problems. The Cosworth Vega rims may be larger and might be tight. Your
solution to change to RWA would take care of this and I think it looks a
whole lot better. The 72 or 73 Midgets came with RWA for only one year and
really looked cool, particularly when the arch was full of tire. Good luck.

It was 3/8 and it's not hard to change the 7/16. Just get new studs and
nuts, pound out the old studs, drill out the holes and pound/press in the
new studs.
It's a bit more of a problem if you have mags of some type. You have to find
7/16 lug nuts that will work with your particular wheel.
