A 73 vette sold in 79 for 6K! He did the right thing.

Around 73 they were so smogged up even the 427 was horsepower
neutered. Today you can get a run of the mill bumperless vette for
10K, which in 1979 dollars is about 3 K (less costs of storage
and/or maintaining resaleable condition). Since the late 60's
inflation has gone up 5 times. Gas in Canada and houses in many
North American cities - double that.

If the vette designers (actually mgmnt) had reversed the split
window scenario, the 63 splitless window would now be the
one in demand.

Tip of the day for all those who missed the boat - For the price
of a new car (25K) go buy a 1990 to 1995 vette ZR1. All aluminum 4
cam
450 HP, designed by Lotus, manufactured by Mercury (after
5000 units the engine moulds were destroyed). 6 speed ZF box.
Adjustable Bilstein ride system. Rear tires widest in production.
And best of all the body was slightly widened at the rear to
accommodate the fat tires - this makes impossible to counterfeit a
regular vette into one of these low production factory built
collectibles. You will be seeing these cars at the auctions in 15
years and you will "be kicking" yourself.

I was never a vette fan for many good reasons, but the ZR1 was
much better put together and was the last of the real cars. The
new vette is so hitech and smooth and well behaved that it could
be a Jap or German. If I had to cross the continent at very high
speed non stop I would want my ZR1 back.

Second tip, but more of a longshot - For the pickup fans, spend
the option money on a 400 HP Ford F-150 Lightning and take good
care of it for 15 years and then drive it over to the
Barrett-Jackson. Skip the Harley Davidson F 150?
