Use a couple of relays. If you use the existing wiring
as the switch for the relay and you run new wire from
the battery to the relay as the power source, you
avoid overloading the existing wiring and you will
have brighter headlights for 2 reasons: 1. shorter
distance drom the power source to the lights. 2.
modern thicker wire (14 to 16 ga.)to carry the
required power.

P.S. Ensure that you use 30 amp inline fuses from the
battery to the relay (this will protect the relay from
voltage spikes or shorts of any kind).
