Well what I did do was let the battery charge for a while and then start the
car. Turn lights, fan, radio and wipers on. Then watched as the voltmeter
dropped slowly. Duh Alternator. The earlier symptoms were due to inadequate
charge, I suspect.

I have a buddy that had a good, used alt sitting in his garage. I went and
got it, and bought a new battery anyway. The battery I had in the car I
bought in a dump of a place in Front Royal, VA 4 years ago. On the beginning
of a trip down Skyline and the BRP (See the archives of the MG list for the
story, circa August 97).

Now I have 14 volts charge and a new battery. Nothing can stop us from
retaining the Lucas Cup tomorrow ;-).

I know somebody out there has put either a GM or a Mitsubishi alt in a 1500
Midget before. Can you give me the details on the wiring?? That is my plan
as I need to return this alt at some point. In fact the guy I got it from
has a B and wants to do the same. He said if I get the info on how to wire a
new alt, he will make the brackets and we can do both the Midget and his B.
Then I can put a really whoppin stereo in. (NOT)

Thanks for the suggestions Charley.

PS wish me luck on the rallye in the AM. I am off to a wedding tonight and
on to the Rallye in the AM. I will let you all know how we won ;-) (or if)
