Hi List,

Having found that it is no longer possible to purchase brand new MGB Calipers
and that the surcharge on old ones is #15 one side and #25 the other decided
to buy some s/h ones for the princely sum of #16 the pair. Apart from being
a hoarder of NLA parts if I ever get another car I figure an early job will
be to convert to the MGB caliper/Spit disk setup, even if the car is a Morris
Minor Traveller.

Although I would have the calipers rebuilt so wasn't too fussed about the
condition I was assured they 'worked when there were on the car'. An
interesting phrase and when I bought them I wondered how long it was that
they were on the car. When cleaning them I soon noticed that the 2 halves of
each caliper had been split and not bolted back up tight together.

So just a simple warning for anyone new or an infrequent buyer of s/h parts -
you get what you pay for and while I am still pleased with the price I paid
had I been planning to fit them to a car as a matter of urgency I would have
been sorely disappointed.

A question for the list is what should I do to keep the insides free from
rusting, is it ok to pour some engine oil in them?

Finally, an option over here on re-conditioned calipers is to have stainless
steel pistons - any comment?
