Hello Frank,

there is a wonderful article addressing just this question in
the current issue of HOT ROD magazine.. .. belts vs. chains vs
       gears!!!!

gears don't break (often) and maintain the timing perfectly,
albiet with greater NOISE.. (turbo whine!)..
belts.. (toothed?!) are also accurate after initial stretching,
and pre stressed belts are available (for hot rods anyway)..

chains also have more noise than belts.. and DO stretch..
especially depending upon the type of gears (pointed vs square
cut) used... .. pick up a copy of the mag.. as this is just
       what i can recall offhand.
