yes i also enjoy vintage racing. when seriously racing my bugeye in solo2
back in the late 70's i found it so highly competitive that quite a few
competitors did not socialise with each other due to their competitive sides
not allowing them to befriend a fellow competitor. giving away secrets to
the enemy or what was the deal i do not know. but as i progressed to solo1
i found a much more agreeable group that really were much more relaxed and
sociable. but then i entered vintage racing and found my "home" in racing.
run as hard as you safely can, avoid contact through carefully judged passes
and go as fast as you feel comfortable with. heck i'm running flat out in
my old saab 2 stroke. there are some racers out there that are running at
..lets say 3/4 speed. and that suits them, and i'm ok with that. but
what really attracted me to vintage racing was the level of support from
fellow racers! i have never seen so many people who are so willing to
share any spare parts they have on board in a given weekend to help a fellow
competitor. last year you may remember the split failed knock off on the
morgan at watkins glen. we thought our weekend was over and it was if it
were not for the offerings of a spare knock off from a mgb driver! this
never happened in SCCA competitive racing years ago. possibly today but the
old addage that if your competition was on the trailer due to a failure just
put you up another position was a rule of thumb. not so in vintage racing.
after 8 events this year(4 hillclimbs and 4 road courses) i am looking
forward to going to virginia international raceway at month's endfor the
season finale for the SVRA. i am going to play cars with the other
children.....and i will play nice too!
