Hi, Bob-

You do not really need an alternator, but
Bugeyes are positive ground and all the
good stuff these days is negative ground,
this conversion normally done with an
alternator conversion anyway. Just makes
life a little easier.

Also, the Bugeye gens don't put out that
much juice to begin with; adding stuff
and low rpm driving don't do much to
charge the battery, over time. Much better
situation with an alternator and battery
lasts a lot longer, especially in cold climates. Morning temperatures
down
in the low 20's are common in the Northeast at this time, and a well
charged
battery is appreciated!

In my case I have halogen tripod lamps,
stereo, electric fan, electric fuel pump,
electric WS washer, electric third brake
light on rollbar along with the normal
heater and wiper; and a Bosch alternator
that is capable of running all at the same
time while still putting out an additional
1.5+ volts to charge the battery, at rpms
just above idle.

P.S. - You ever get the old serial number off your 23D dizzy? Curious!!
