Roger,

Most tranny's I have come across have a boss on the rear of the bell
housing near the seam of the tail shaft section. That boss frequently has a
date stamp on it. If you were to stand the tranny on end woth the tail
pointing up, the number can be seen by looking down at the flat boss on the
bottom left side.

There is no cross reference from the tranny number of which I'm aware. You
could get an idea from the engine number, but there is no correlation to
when the tranny was built.
