Alan-

The fact an "anti-run on" kit is mfg. for
the "emissions" engine really tells you
everything you need to know, assuming
all is as "stock".

You did not say whether your other '74
has all the emissions equipment hooked
up as I (assume) the offending '74 does.

Assuming both '74's have all thier emissions equipment hooked up and
"al"l (plugs, timing, etc.) is stock in both,
then a little more carbon in the combustion chambers of one as compared
to the other just might make the difference. The emissions engines also
specified the hotter thermstadts. Both
the same in this respect, also? One
run more hot than the other under same
conditions, perhaps? After all while they
are all the same, they are different.

"Popping" the clutch while shutting off
will stop the run-on if you don't mind
treating the mechanicals in this manner
though I'd look to treat the problem at it's
source rather than treating the symptoms.

You sure the timing is right on the offending vehicle along with proper
spark plug heat range?
