Brad:

So much of this depends on driving style
that I wouldn't hazard a guess as to what
might be "normal".

I think the carbon-graphite "clutchi" probably get less as this seems to
be the
first clutch part to wear out. I have used
upgraded "rollers" for years and these
clutchi I have gotten many, many miles
out of.

An example would be my old Vizard tuned
1300+ 11.0-1 motor that powered my old
'74 RWA Midget. Motor turned out about
90 at the rear wheels (dynoed). Using an
"upgraded" roller throw-out I put 80K on
this motor without replacing the clutch
and this with the "street screamer" VP3
cam and 1.5 rollers.

This engine spent a lot of time going to
5K as a habit and spent a lot of it's time
cruising back and forth to LaGuardia from
Stamford, CT usually once, sometimes
twice a week, on limited access highways.

This car was driven with respect for the
mechanicals.....very "smoothly", no slam
shifts, leaving rubber or anything even
approaching "kid" behaviour.

I was never the type to hold the clutch
depressed while stopped, type of throw-
out bearing notwithstanding.

Subject: [midgetsprite] Clutch Parts Life

What is the average life of your clutch components? We have had the 68
for about 6 or 7 years now, and I have not ever changed out anything in
the drivetrain. I have been hearing from time to time, as sound like a
spring popping when I have taken off from stop signs and stop lights.
Now last night, the clutch decided to get difficult. It won't shift
easily and makes a low growling when the pedal is depressed. FWIW, I
ALWAYS shift into neutral when sitting still. For all you new owners who
are not yet driving your car, or have just started, DO NOT SIT AT IDLE
WITH YOUR FOOT ON THE CLUTCH PEDAL. This will wear out your carbon fiber
throwout bushing and create downtime for you. Anyway, what is the
expected life of the clutch assembly?
Thanks, Brad
