Cool!  It's always nice when those things happen.

It is one or the other.  However, the tonneau can be used as a sort of
boot cover by leaving it atttached at the rear and folding it down
into the back of the passenger compartment.  Some years have "lift the
dot" fasteners installed for this purpose where the driveshaft tunnel
meets the back of the passenger compartment.

The snaps are going to be tight.  That's the way you want them.  If
you'are talking about the Tenax fasteners (that they're stiff to pull
the little knob), you can take them off the tonneau, use a little
penetrating oil (not WD-40, real pentrating oil) to clean things out,
then rinse any excess off and reinstall.
