 I use Mag Wheel cleaner on aluminum to clean it up. It is a phoshoric acid 
base and does pretty well at cleaning the metal.  Spray it on, let it foam a 
bit, scrub with an old toothbrush (wearing EYE PROTECTION) and rinse off.  I 
guess it would take care of the TSP darkening--don't really know.
