Yup, even we 15th or so generation patriotic American WASPs that live in the
Southern States catch the "hick, rube, redneck..." barbs almost every day,
especially from the media and TV celebs. That's OK by me...there's no chip
on my shoulder about that. I do, however, realize that the more easily
offended among us usually have very real and deeply felt reasons for it.
It's eye-opening to me when I imagine how it would be to "walk a mile in
their shoes." Anyway (except for this posting), I try to lay off the racial
and ethnic jokes, discussions, jabs, etc.. I just smile and settle my
redneck-hick self into my Sprite or Big Healey and go for a relaxing ride
through the beautiful Ozark Mountains. Is this a great country or what??
