Frank:
I picked up my first 5 spd. gearbox used
from a yard down your way as a matter of
fact, years ago. It always crunched going
from 1st to 2nd, especially when cold.
The only way around it was to double
clutch this particular shift or just take
it slow. All the other synchros were ok
but 2nd was obviously on the way out.
So, I thought nothing of this since 1st to 2nd is the most likely place
for "abuse"
to take place, anyway. Then I got my
Rivergate re-built and it did the same thing, but to a far, far lesser
exent.
It is a characterisic of the box, I guess,
even when rebuilt by the Rivergate crew.
Think I may give Ron's Royal Purple
recommendation a try, just for the helluva
it when he gets back to the list
on which of the two they offer, he is
referring to.
