It's my experience with two different type LSD's in a Bugeye that they rely
on a stack of alternating disks that create friction between each other. The
best seem to have the variety of plates with some serrated and with adequate
spring tension. I can tell you that they have to be assembled properly and
engineered for your driving needs. Done improperly and they will fade
quickly or just not be strong enough for competition.
The Detroit locker is a respected unit and once you have mastered the element
of surprise, it will serve you well. The fastest Bugeye time in the Auto-X
at Tahoe International is held by my friend Rod Hill who uses the Detroit
locker. (does that make him the fastest Bugeye in the World?) It is very
disconcerting for me to see what occurs when it locks or un-locks, but he is
used to it. Locked, it gives him awesome control. I don't think he ever
lets it unlock in any corner. He has used it maint. free for many years.
For street and race, a good strong LSD that can be set for your application
and does not fade is where I put my money.
