Greetings, oh wise and noble listers:

I have an interesting LBC quirk I'd like the group to consider.

I am driving my recently acquired '59 Bugeye Sprite with the original
948cc engine and 4-speed. It burns very little oil, however, it has an
interesting habit of sending out a smoke screen off the engine whenever
I make a right hand turn.

No smoke turning left; mosquito fog - destroyer smoke screen - forest
fire smoke whenever I turn right. And it doesn't have to be a hard
right either. I was doing some lazy 'S' curves at a local college
campus and even slow right turns created the smoke. I am proud to think
that I am doing my part to combat West Nile virus. ;-}

Near as I can tell, none of the smoke is coming out the exhaust. When I
turn right and come to a stop (like when I come around the corner and
park in front of my admirers at home), I send up smoke signals in case
they couldn't hear me coming! When I raise the bonnet and try to figure
out where the smoke is originating, I have noticed a puff of smoke
rising from the intake/exhaust manifold area as I goose the accelerator,
so my guess is that the rocker cover gasket or crankcase ventilation
system is leaking.

Anybody care to speculate on the cause of this?

Tim C.
