Yes!

Better "quality" mfg. "processi" (assembly-one "blueprinting" if you
will)
combined with excellent synthetic oils.

As far as over the road truck fleets go...
these are the easiest miles (relatively
speaking) an engine can accumulate
over time, combined with excellent oils,
filters and additional bypass filters
to boot. This is especailly the case
for heavily built diesels designed specifically for the application.

For ourselves we have the very
excellent "Oil Extreme" synthetic
lubricants (Vizard tested to boot)
and proven to unleash a little bit
more HP.

This having been stated, metal contamination in older engines not
factory built to today's standards is
what it always was and I personally
consider 3,000 mile LOF's to be cheap insurance in this particular
respect unless
you are doing primarily over the road
highway driving as a rule, wherein 5-6k
sounds pretty reasonable (to me, anyway)
for the "older" engine rebuilts.

And, of course:
this is balanced to some extent by
the superior film strength of synthetics
such as "Oil Extreme" and the other excellent brands on the market,
who's
excellent "flowability" and "coating" properties allow for less wear and
tear
during "cold" starts (metal to metal).

There is also another thing to consider.

When you drop in on your mechanic
he generally looks over the machine
during the LOF's and "notices" things
which, if fixed early enough, can save
you money in the long run. This sort
of "preventative" maintenance is often
forgotten about in our quest to "save
pennies" (so to speak!).

My mechanic is in a lot of ways my best
friend. I don't mind doing my part to
support his operation so that he is "there"
when I need him....one hand washes the
other! :)
