ok-ok-ok! i have read this being hashed and hashed over again. since i
worked for toyota i can give you the only route wich will give you any hope
of resolve in this matter.
CSI is evrything to a dealership! it has evrything to do with their
standings in relationship to the rest of their area or district. evry
dealer wants to be top 10 top 3 or the coveted #1. (#1 usually at years end
results in vacation trips for department managers and dealer principal and
at very least gives a top rating for any problem customers to get resolve to
ANY problems!)
you need to call volvo and lodge a complaint ! a very loud complaint with
threats of "lawyers and court cases"! request that you get contacted by the
district or regional representitive and have him examine your car, plead
your case with him, not the dealership service manager! in car
franchise/dealership terms the factory representitive is a higher source
than any person at the dealership. now anything from, nothing (wich would
shock me!) to them offering to pay all labor and split the parts cost (very
likely or a similar thing might transpire) to they will fix it for you (to
shut you up and make you go away!) . it depends how you present your case
and how seriously you threaten them with alternative actions of any sort.
i have seen disgruntled customers paint their car lime green with poster
paint(so it washes off later!) and picket a dealership with lemmon shaped
yellow picket signs (wich got the dealership on local news in a very poor
light!)! it depends how creative you are! on the other hand you might be
able to recover "some money" out of it selling it as is and just write this
off as "one of those things". or you can turn it into a lawn ornament and
plant flowers around it. it all depends upon your attitude and desires
after you cool off after the initial anger of the moment.
of course the dealership wants to have you pay out of your pocket to have it
repaired! their factory warrenty figures (even if it is out of warrenty,
there are alternatives to be offered but they will not say or do a thing as
long as you are not being assertive and working to undermine their CSI
ratings with the parent company!) might be too high and they will fall under
scrutiny if they submit any big claims. and customer pay work is a far
better money maker that flat rate warrenty work.

chuck
not that i have ever seen any of this stuff........
