Well you know how those racers are, a couple of hours is a long time on
some of their engines. Here, I thought they just flipped the car over
on the roll bar to swap the cam?

If I recall, you never re-use lifters with a different cam. The cam
lobes
will flatten within a few hours of operation, therefore, even if you
could
lift them up enough to slide in a new cam, they would tear it up in
short
order.
