The heater flaps are high up on the sides of the center
console. They may be rusted and stuck shut - or open.

The heat radiating from the exhaust header/manifold
and pipe is very considerable, plus the entire motor
gets hot, for sure. That heat needs to leave and as
long as it hangs around, it will soak into the surrounding
sheet metal.

Home improvement stores sell foil/bubble insulation
stuff and 3m makes great trim cement in a spray that
will send you over the moon if you breathe it. Meow!

Cover the front of the footwell on both sides and wrap
it back along the inside of the tranny box/console.
Look to see what other exposed sheetmetal is there to
soak up and pass on the heat.

Look to see if you can help the heat exit more easily,
like enlarging the opening the pipe exits down through.
Some folks wrap the exhaust sytem, but that traps too
much heat and fries the components. Paint 'em
Eastwoood silver and decide they "look cool".

On my 71 Midget, I lined the footwells with the
reflective insulation. Under the carpets also, especially
since the pipe runs right under the LH floor, radiating
heat. You could even paint the underside of the
floor white or silver to reflect heat.

I wish I could make the Dixon meet, but am scheduled
to teach " Painless"traffic violators school in Sac that day.
Crap! All them happy little speeders - and I drive to work
in my Integra GSR, using my mirrors and scanning for
complications.

Let us know of your progress!
