Whoa, whoa....

Cool, isn't it!! And the feeling of exhileration lasts long after you've
gotten back on the ground, eh? Flying
is beautiful. So is racing!! 

Aerobatics should definitely be a requirement for ANY pilot to teach
correct
use of the controls in all attitudes relative
to the ground and natural horizon. The
airplane behaves "differently" when it
defies gravity with the airfoil "upside down" with relative speed being
a prime
consideration in the foregoing.

With every respect, had John, Jr. had
such training, he MIGHT have recognized
his entry into a negative scenario early
enough to have made a graceful withdrawal from same, ego
notwithstanding.....or MAY have manipulated the controls a little
differently...as in "letting go" in which case
the aircraft, having inate positive dynamic
stability by design, might have had the altitude in time to "save" it's
pilot and
occupants, alike....big "MAYBE", though,
as all it would have done is given him a
second shot at doing a better job, obvious
"audible" distractions (assumption, here)
notwithstanding.
