Yes--I just removed mine on my '79 a couple of weeks ago. I have a large
gear puller that I hooked behind the crosspiece and put the pointed screw in
the
middle of the shaft, then tightened the hell out of it. Then took a large
hammer and banged the screw a few times with force and the steering wheel
popped
free.
