Communications Engineer

Description - Define solutions for future civil aeronautical communications
and improve surveillance of sensitive airspace in 2015:
* Analyze requirements and projected loads for air-ground voice and data
communications in the National Airspace System of 2015.
* Suggest optimal methods for satisfying the sum total of these projected
communications needs.
* Define modeling and simulation work to further investigate and refine the
proposed communications solutions, and will direct and participate in the
work of the modeling and simulation team.
* Conduct investigations pertaining to aeronautical communications
interoperability, security, and implementation risk assessment,
specifically, CPDLC (Controller Pilot Data Lind Communications), and VDL-3
(VHF Data Link Mode 3) will be investigated.
Qualifications:
* B.S. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
* Minimum 3 years experience in development and operations of network
communications technology.
* Well-versed in IP-based fixed and mobile wireless network technology, with
particular expertise in ad - hoc networks, routing technology for mobile
networks, network security (including PKI), information security, and QoS
for mobile environments
* Knowledge of ATN (Aeronautical Telecommunications Network) and supporting
routing protocols is required.
* Knowledge of the UNIX operating system and C programming is required, with
FreeBSD experience a plus. (This position will require modification of OS
kernels to support implementation and analysis of new protocols).
* Must have good oral and written communication skills and the ability to
work in a small team.
* U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status required.
