Chris,
If the car runs w/ the choke pulled and the plugs are black, but cuts off
or sputters w/ the choke released, you need to turn up the idle speed.

With the car turned off, lift the dashpot and look at the butterfly.  It
should be slightly open and probably is not

Now pull the choke and look again.  Also look at the idle speed screws.
They won't be touching the pads on the throttle shaft cam.

Turn the screws in until they touch. release the choke and start the car
then you can back down the idle setting on both carbs and tart to balance
and tune
