Haven't had much time to make progress. Anyway, I got the thermostat
housing off today, drilling through the sheared bolt, then whacking it
with a hammer.
Fabulous. Except there was no thermostat. Worse still, looking down
towards the water pump, it was just orange everywhere.
I can safely say that the cooling system on this car is in the worst
condition I've seen. I'd like to replace the water pump housing and
thermostat housing. Are these available? Moss has gaskets but not the
parts, as far as I can see.
I can see that this is a can of worms. I reckon the coolant passages in
the block are going to be f***ked up as well. How much more effort is
it to get that deep into the engine and clean them? I would probably give
it an overhaul at the same time. I just don't see the point of not
cleaning the cooling system out, now I've got this far.
