No LBC - Removing paint from bakelite?

I've got an old, heavy, bakelite telephone that's been painted yellow many 
years ago.  The stuff was brushed on and appears quite tough (the paint has 
chipped in a few places).

Anybody have any suggestions for getting back to the bakelite finish on this 
thing?
