I just discovered a possible overheat problem with the 948 engine.
Particularly the flat therostat housing and a particular stat.
While seeing if the stat worked in my current 948 project engine, I
cleaned it up, heated it up and sure enough it opened up.
Looking at it in the vice, I saw the flip top flip up to let the water
thru. Well under that flat housing, that particular stat will not open.
It will hit the housing long before it fully opens.
Now what came in this engine is not a drop down Smiths or even a modern
drop down stat. But was this a common available stat back in the early
60s? If anyone is running that type of stat with the stock stat cover,
it ain't gonna work.
Maybe this engine was pulled because it had a severe overheating problem
many years ago? I wonder.
