I didn't think the cardboard would do much for you anyway, Bill, except
perhaps
exacerbate the situation.

You got a problem in there some where,
'cause initially (according to your post)
you get heat as the needle comes off
the peg, then things cool off when they
should be getting warmer, needle-wise
and heat-wise.

Air block, malfunctioning stat, whatever.
Something's not quite right in there.

I don't know the Spitfire engine, but most
emissions motors run warmer by a few
degrees than non-emissions types.

Non-emissions run 170F summer, 180F
winter, so I'm guessing at 190F, most
likely year 'round, but I don't "know".

There must
be a Spitfidget being somewhere out there
listening who must know.
