Well, Leo....we live, we learn.

Thank you. At the core I am not a union
sorta guy but I realize why they exist and
who is responsible for originating them
to begin with.

Federal Certificate Holders love their
work (obviously) otherwise they would
not hold these certificates to begin with.

Do you realize how bad management has
to be for a union to get a foothold on the property among people who
love their 
work? }80-<

Sure there's a downside to unions but
just consider the immediately foregoing  for a moment before you blast
unions.

A Federal Certificate Holder doesn't go
to work for any employer without initially
starting off with a positive attitude, believe me. S/he can't looks
forward to doing what they love to do to begin with!!

Don't you think that if I could see my
way clear to safely cut corners (sometimes we can, depends upon
specific circumstances) to save the
company time/money that I would
voluntarily do so? Of course I would.
To me this is a part of the job and
comes with the territory but will always
be secondary to survival (safety) in any
case, FAA or no FAA. 

Different story though when the boss
orders you to do so in circumstances
wherein you have good cause not to
do so, and your boss determines on
your next six month checkride whether
you pass or fail and continue in his
employ. And your record of passed
and/or failed checkrides follows you.

As I said...unions.....a necessary evil
wherein less than educated management
resides. UPS and FedEx are wealthy
companies. Both have very strong unions
for their "drivers". Nobody f-cks with 
a UPS or FedEx "driver" who comes in,
does his job (according to the book)
collects his check, and goes home. You
do exactly what they pay you to do...
no more, no less. 

'Cause that's the way THEY set it up.
Do more than you should even with the
best of intent, and you damn well better
be right 'cause if you're not and you're
caught operating "outside the box" to
save the firm a buck (and you guessed
wrong), management's not going to back
you up despite your good intent..they'll
fire you in a heartbeat.

And the union can't help you 'cause the
contract says you'll "follow the book"!!!

All very juvenile and very expensive when
management is less than well-educated,
eh?? Working for American, United and
some of the others is like working in
a kindergarten atmosphere. It is SO
childish and immature but...that's
management for you at such places.

Come in, do your work, collect your check
and go home. Maintain a low profile. You
don't ever want to remind "them" you even
work there!!
