 Damn the bad luck.
 Frank ive installed several door openers over the yrs. Not knowing what type 
you have, i can only
guess ASS/U/ME. 
 One thing forsure the stop failed. Take a look
 and see what stops the door from going up
 to far. chain, rod ?

time to get out the magic rubber chicken and hang it up prominently and get
a set of magic beads and hang with the chicken!  LOL!  my old garage in
bethlehem had an automatic opener and one day it started to close all by
itself!  with my bugeye 1/2 out of the shop.   got the car out in time!
just in time to have a huge comercial jet fly over the garage in the landing
pattern for local airport.    happened once more and same thing a jet went
over my garage.  that did it!  i disconnected the remote controll segment.
