Has anyone had any better luck with this engine lifting device than I have?

I got one cheap (bought second hand by #1 son and presented to me by way of
santa Claus a couple of years ago).
I've not noticed any "luck" involved.  It tilts the engine, which you
otherwise have to do with your hands and fingers in very precarious places.
The alternative seems to involve some luck.  Have you had problems with
yours?
