"Tuning" wire wheels is rapidly becoming a lost art.  Very few shops have
the skills or inclination to handle the job.  It can be quite expensive to
have done correctly.  If not done, spokes bend, break, and generally cause
some really unpleasant experiences when driving.  Also, tires must be hand
mounted, and most tire shops will refuse to do them.  That said, would I
give up my wires?  No!

I know of no negative features of the disc brake conversion.  It is a fairly
simple procedure and can be done by the typical back yard mechanic with a
medium amount of skill & experience.
