On the 68, I had been having
some trouble with the brakes.
I had a new master, rebuilt
the rear slaves, new hoses on
the front, yet recently, I was
losing a trace amount of
fluid. Every week, I had to
add a small amount of fluid to
the master. I also had to pump
the brakes to get them to grab
well. Only once, but still.
It finally occurred to me,
DUH, that the E brake lever
was coming up alot more than
it needed to. So I spent some
time cleaning the rear drums
and shoes. Then I adjusted the
shoes till the drum was
binding, and then backed it
off 1/4 turn. Now the brakes
don't need to be pumped, and
the E brake lever barely comes
up, about 5 clicks, 6 if I
really try.
Moral, if you think your
brakes are needing bled, check
the pull on your E brake lever
first. If it is pulling more
than 5 or 6 clicks, adjust it
first. My rear shoes were not
engaging until I over extended
the slave piston to get them
to work. This also caused a
slight lose of fluid due to
the over extending.
I know this may sound
elementary to many, but for
all I know about these cars, I
missed it completely. I just
hope this might help a few
others to avoid a baffling
situation.

Brad
